Damn, it’s been stupidly busy around here. We’re gearing up for a show at the Spotlight on March 5th, and it’s been crazy as hell trying to practice with all the snow events happening. In fact, the roof over our practice space is none too solid, so when we showed up last Saturday with all the rain, we found pools of water both in the break room and out in the hall. Also, there was a soaking wet spot on the carpet behind our amps.
We were mopping up water for about an hour before we could start setting up our equipment, only to find that the surge protector had gotten soaked. I mean, it was dripping water when I picked it up. Aaron had to be seriously dissuaded from using it, because he didn’t think the fact that it was wet was a big deal. I wasn’t about to get electrocuted.
I’ve lately been experiencing the manic side of my crazy. It tends to make me cut ties with people that I don’t feel contribute anything to my life, but in a mild mannered, cheerful fashion. Usually with minimal drama, but that may be only how it seems from the inside.
I’ve been applying for scads of new jobs, and helping Dirk apply for government jobs. I just want to stop spending 5 days/nights a week hardly seeing him at all, unless one of us is blearily waking up. I also want to see him stop hurting all the time. His body will break before he’s thirty, at this rate. $11.50 an hour isn’t compensation enough for hauling appliances to the top of two-story tall shelves, dangling from a safety belt if you lose your footing, in my opinion. Also, it’s hell on his shoes.
I haven’t been writing as much as I wanted to. This is because I am lazy and easily distracted. I will grant you there has been a lot to distract me, but honestly, when I get home, sometimes all I can do after shooing Dirk off to work at night is load up the dishwasher and then read recaps of shows at Television Without Pity instead of watching them on TV. Right here I want to say that my life just becomes more surreal, but I’ll wait until the negative connotations left from that horrible mistake of a show have faded. It doesn’t help that Dirk goes to work at 8:30 or 9:00, and from 7:30 until 8:30, I’m trying to haul his bleary ass out the door and/or working out and/or driving to my parent’s to put in the tape for Buffy. So, my downtime is after 9 at night, after a full day of stupid. I just can’t do this. There aren’t enough hours in the day, seriously.
The snow last week did nothing to help matters. Seriously, there was an assload of snow, and we had no snow shovels.
My car, in the snow, at night.
And again.
A different view. Look at all that fucking snow. We got over two feet where I was.
No, seriously, what? I gave Dirk the camera to take pictures, and this is all he came up with. Weirdo.Ugh. Also, Dirk’s mother insisted on shoveling the snow, even after she said she felt awful, and after Dirk told her not to shovel it. She kept shoveling (mind you, while it was still snowing), and then she felt dizzy and achy and awful. She thought she was having a heart attack, so she went over to her neighbor’s and had her call an ambulance. The neighbor did so, called Dirk, and they all went to the hospital (my father was kind enough to pick Dirk up and bring him). Turns out, his mom has Labyrinthitis. It’s an inner ear condition that makes you dizzy, throws off your balance, and can make you vomit if you move too rapidly. Fun. But then, Dirk was stuck at his mom’s, I was stuck at our place with only a broom and a cookie sheet to remove snow, and nobody was happy.
Jesus, I’m tired. I also need to be putting together more application packages. I’ve got this song stuck in my head; maybe you can help me figure out who plays it. The lyrics go something like:
Help I'm steppin' into the twilight zone
The place is a madhouse
Feels like being cloned
My beacon's been moved under moon and star
Where am I to go
Now that I've gone too far
Soon you will come to know
When the bullet hits the boneI’ll leave you with more pictures of the cat
Yahoo looks so adorable when she’s asleep.
But look who woke up looking adorable!
