If your website deals with domestic violence.

A man who beats a woman once will do it again. And again. And again. Study after study shows the abuse - if anything - will worsen each time. So why stay? Well numerous reasons actually. FEAR being the most prevalent, as well as the lack of financial resources.
I feel that once you understand the cycle of violence, you won't be frustrated. This happens. She really wants to believe things will change. But it probably won't. Victims are forced to trudge through a sometimes confusing court system alone because local district courts don't have enough advocates to help them, a problem compounded by a rising number of cases. Although local women's shelters offer advocates - often volunteers - that help is usually secured by appointment hours if not days in advance. While medical professionals are frequently the first to spot signs of domestic abuse, they are under no mandate to report it, and some doctors are reluctant to even broach the subject with patients. All over the country the services for victims - ranging from emergency shelter to help filling out restraining orders - are being squeezed tighter and tighter. Did you know that Shelters throughout the state turn away dozens of women each day. Courthouses, bearing the brunt of one of the nation's most extensive domestic violence laws are swamped with paperwork, buried by new cases.

Identifying the problem is the easy part. Solving it is another matter.
It is known widely that there are a high number of women because of hope or fear who choose not to pursue a case when the immediate threat of battering is over. Those cases are a source of frustration to everyone, from police to victim witness to prosecutors. We just do everything that we can do. Sending an abuser to jail sends a powerful message that domestic violence is a criminal act.

It's not a domestic dispute, it's a crime
If battered women can be found in all circles, so can the abuser. ``Batterers hold down jobs. They are Your neighbors, teachers, clergy, brother, uncle and Yes Your Police Officer and Judge and Political Rep. etc. They are not the Poor inner city blacks. They Are EVERYWHERE. They are not very violent usually to other people. They have a public image and then there is the "at home side" the side that abuses. NNever seen by those the abuser interacts with on a Puplic level.
  • Did you know there are 3 times more Animals Shelters than Shelters for abused Women?
  • One out of 5 agrevated assaults are Battered women. Those numbers are rising at an alarming rate.
  • 20%of women admitted to the emergency room, are victims of domestic abuse. And remeber that many more lie about their insuries to "protect" their spouse.

Good people are rarely suspicious: they cannot imagine others doing the things they themselves are incapable of doing; usually they accept the undramatic solution as the correct one, and let matters rest there. Then too, the normal are inclined to visualize the [psychopath] as one who's as monstrous in appearance as he is in mind, which is about as far from the truth as one could well get .... These monsters of real life usually looked and behaved in a more normal manner than their actually normal brothers and sisters; they presented a more convincing picture of virtue than virtue presented of itself - just as the the wax rosebud or the plastic peach seemed more perfect to the eye, more what the mind thought a rosebud or a peach should be, than the imperfect original from which it had been modelled. ©angela gschwind
