Afternoon Window
January 1995
acrylic on cardstock

This was a view from my livingroom window. I took some artistic license and didn't paint in the fence.

When Tom saw this painting, he said there's an awful lot of grey in it. "I don't know, Tom." I said, "I see blue and red."

Nightwatch
January 1995
acrylic on cardstock

This painting actually had no title until I had to give it one for this directory. I'm pretty sure I've used the title "Nightwatch" before. Oh well.

Once when I was in the hospital, the night nurse had seizures in the middle of the night and had to be taken away. I had liked her, and I never saw her again.

This concept of keeping watch at night figures prominently in my work, and I keep using designs similar to this one on cards. The inscription, I think, is key, and I use it often.

Timothy and Quack Grass
26 July 1994
acrylic on cardstock with grass prints

I spent a summer getting to know the different species of grass that grew near my (then) home in Waitsfield, Vermont. One evening I was sitting in a field at sunset looking at Scragg Mountain through the tall grass.
