Epilogue

Both slayers were drenched with sweat. Their hearts pounded, almost in unison with their movements. Minds locked in the heat of battle. Both had fire in their eyes. Faith backed away from her opponent warily. She wiped the sweat from her eyes and took a deep breath, trying to regain her composure. Buffy readied herself for attack.

Buffy swung a right hand at Faith with her quarter staff, pushing her further back into the stacks. Faith recovered quickly, backhanding Buffy in the jaw. Buffy growled, angry. With a round house kick, she sent Faith flying to the ground, giving Buffy the upper hand. Faith rolled out of the way, trying to gain her feet again, but to no avail. Within seconds, Buffy’s quater staff was flying toward Faith’s head.

All on lookers breathed a sigh of relief as the staff stopped within inches of Faith.

“Boy, that was intense,” Oz whispered. Willow and he exchanged looks as Buffy offered her hand to Faith, trying to help her up.

“Some work out Buff,” Xander called out from across the library.

Both slayers swiveled their heads in direction of the noise. In their fervor, neither had noticed the slayerettes enter the library. Faith narrowed her eyes at Buffy, and grabbed the quater staff from her hands. With a surprised look, Buffy released it and watched as Faith moved her way to the weapon’s locker.

“Yes,” Giles piped up, “Great training session. Faith, you are vastly improving with the use of the staff. It’s only a matter of time until we can move up to the sword . . . or perhaps the cross bow. Buffy was ready for the cross bow on her first day.”

“Geeze Giles,” Buffy chirped, “Give the girl a break. She's only been here a week.”

Faith looked at Buffy through narrowed eyes. She shot Buffy a dirty look and pushed her way past as she headed out the library to get cleaned up. “Maybe I don’t need a break.”

As Faith breezed through the library, the slayerettes exchanged worried looks.

Xander looked toward Buffy, "What was that all about?"
