Red Herring is often perceived by others as a studio complex or perhaps as a managed association of artists. This perception is true in as much as we run a studio complex and we have a management system, however these aspects of our activities exist to support our primary constitution as a group with shared aims.
Within Red Herring the value of the group is seldom underestimated. The group generates a dynamic that provides enormous benefits to its members, It is a professional peer group for a profession which is traditionally one of isolated practitioners, it allows for interchange and collaboration as an everyday activity and it generates enthusiasm and innovation. The group also acts as financial and lobbying unit with far more power than an individual could summon. Red Herring is not simply a collective united by a shared discipline, it has a common sense of purpose that is a live subject amongst the group, our aims inform our activities and new members are chosen with reference to these aims.
