Chapter Two: Meterological Disaster

Girlfriend in a coma, I know, I know, it's really serious
There were times when I could have murdered her
But you know I would hate anything to happen to her...
NO I DON'T WANT TO SEE HER
Do you really think she'll pull through?

--Smiths, Girlfriend in a Coma

The snow is raging outside, but it's the last thing Mike cares about. He had kissed her-- geez, more than just kissed her, they were touching each other, and she was kissing back... and something inside him had panicked and pulled away from her.
"I'm sorry," he says, "I didn't mean to do that..."
"It's all right," Amber says softly.
"Look," Mike says. "I'm sorry, I've felt so confused lately..."
"I know. I understand..." Amber thinks guiltily of all the secrets she's been hiding from him... how can I not tell him the truth?

Raphael focuses on the road, looking for any clue, any hint... he had to find them. His wife, his child... they meant the world to him, everything, without them he--
Wait.
His wife?
His child? As in only one?
Raph stands up and looks out at the falling snow. It had been early fall, he could have sworn, and now it felt more like mid-winter.
He frowns. Something, he knows, is very wrong...

"Hey, Leo?"
Leo looks up from Rabbit, Run. "What?"
Don's holding a small, blond-haired boy by the hand. "Trevor wants to know if he can look at your picture books again."
Leo looks over at Trevor. "The ones with all the armor, and the swords?"
The boy nods.
"Sure. Go on in my room..."
Trevor walks quickly in, and Don sits next to Leo on the couch. "He's a sweet kid, isn't he?"
"Yeah, he's cute, too..."
"So, do you remember where he came from?"
Leo shakes his head. "No idea."
"Whoever he is, he really seems to like me..."

"Oh, Mike..."
He hadn't realized it would happen so fast, it could happen so fast, but now her shirt's on the floor and he's fumbling with the hooks of her bra... but it's not as awkward as he thought it would be, almost feels like he's done it before...
Amber kisses him again, and he forgets everything but the feel of his lips on hers...
The sound of the door hitting the floor gets their attention, though.
Maureen is standing in the doorway, holding what looks to be a very large caliber weapon. "I hate to interrupt you," she growls, "but might I ask what the hell is going on?"
Mike jumps up from the couch. "I can explain!"
"Oh, I'm sure you can..."
"Baby, you know I love you, you're the only woman I've ever loved..."
"So who the hell is this bitch?"
"I--" Mike looks blank. "I don't know... I just know I'm supposed to be..."
"Likely story."
"Look!" Mike gets up, walks into the kitchen, opens a drawer. "It's in the script!"
He turns to the page and shoves it under Maureen's nose.
Maureen frowns.
Amber looks at the broken door and wonders how she's going to explain the turtle, the crazy woman, and the ripped-off hinges to her father if he comes home early...
"Well, fuck," Maureen says. "No wonder!"

"Hello?"
"Hey, Leo?" Mike. "Look, has anything... uh... weird been goin' on over there?"
"Yeah, kinda... why?"
"We got the wrong script... it's something called Lightning Crashes."
"Seriously? Oh, good... Don, we're on the wrong script."
"Good... waitaminit, you mean somewhere out there I really slept with Robyn?"
"Guess so..."
"Geez...she's so..." Old, he almost says, then remember he's talking to Leo. "Female."
"Hey," Leo says. "Look that one over. Do I get a better deal?"
"Uh... you're having nightmares..."
"Yeah?"
"No kid..."
"Geez..."
"...and you're still a virgin..."
"I'll stick with this one..."

"Look, you'll be fine. I'm sure your Mike will be here any minute now... sorry about the door..."
"I can't believe you didn't look at the title," Maureen snaps. "I mean, poor Raph's still probably out there wondering why it's snowing..."
"I'm sorry," he says, kissing her on the cheek. "But it all worked out all right..."
"Sure it did," she says sarcastically. "After all, you almost got some..."
"Well," Mike says, teasing her, "she was cute..."
Maureen elbows him and laughs. "And can you imagine Raph married? Yikes..."
"C'mon," Mike smiles. "Let's get back to Apocrypha."

"You just go right across that hallway, and you'll get back to the story, okay, Trevor?"
"Okay," Trevor says nervously.
"Don't worry," Don says. "I'm over there, too, and your mom is..."
"All right."
"Hey, Trevor?"
"Yeah?"
"Tell 'em... tell 'em they better take good care of you, okay?"
"Okay," Trevor says, and disappears.
"All right," Don says. "Might as well get started..."

Yeah... for real... it's safe, I promise... just follow the link.
