...Born into a world that rejects his melanin
Black, Native, and Puerto Rican
So even when he had an address
Where he could lay his head down
In Western New York
He was still homeless

Home is where the heart is
So this mercenary carried out
The nomadic traditions of the other man
Who confused the brother man
Packed up everything he could carry into a nap-sack
Migrated to Chicago and made it home

BUT HE'S HOMELESS
HE'S HOMELESS...

These words are an excerpt from "Still Looking for a Home," which appears in Full Mental Jacket (c. 1999), a book of original poetry by The Seventh Sun . Homelessness is more than a physical state of being, it is also a mental and a spiritual state. Colonialism has left many of our People (Black, Native, and Latino) without the geographical boundaries that once defined We. Equally as important, colonialism has left many of We without a mental definition of who We are. As a result, We continue to wander in this wilderness, aimlessly, "still looking for a home." From the Middle Passage to the Louisiana Purchase to the Trail of Tears to the Treaty of Guadelupe Hidalgo to the injustices of this day, We remain homeless.
