This is part of our National Glass Competition submission that
three students and myself entered in February 1999.
We designed a staircase that is nearly 100% made out of glass.
There are some few metal connections at the base and transparent
epoxy resin has been used to hold parts of the structure together.
The steps are canter-levered.
Structural advice was provided by the structural engineer, expert
in glass structures, Christian Jofeh, Director at Ove Arup & Partners
in Cardiff. Glass artist, James Carpenter also provided with suggestions
on the design itself.
Wish to also thank all other professors that helped us with their valuable
advice, especially Jane Wernick.
Our entry won second place in the competetion.
