Guitarist Edward Van Halen, admitted in an interview, in 1999 that he forced Gary Cherone to sing like, former frontman, Sammy Hagar. Gary Cherone left the band in November of '99, because the singer wanted to pursue new musical ventures. Nobody knows quite yet what really transpired behind closed doors, but apparently Van Halen did not work out musically for Gary.

  • A New Era:

After Extreme broke up,a new chapter emerged. The guitar player from Extreme, Nuno Bettencourt, released his first solo album "Schizophonic" early in 1997. The album is brilliant and shows the guitarists ability to create a record full of musical twists and turns. From the dark and muddy "Gravity" to the sweet and sour feeling of "Pursuit of Happiness". Nuno's first solo record is a work of sonic art. About a year and a 1/2 after the release of "Schizophonic", Gary's new band Van Halen released their first record together "Van Halen 3". The album is full of colorful guitar playing from the great Edward Van Halen. "Without You" is very visual and "A Year to the Day" is a song of epic proportions. In late 1998 Nuno's new band Mourning Widows released their self-tilted debut. The album carrys an alternative feel to it and features some of Nuno's best guitar work since "III Sides to Every Story". Songs like "All Automatic" and "The Temp" are splendidly rickety. "True Love in the Galaxy" is heart warming and is the first song I've heard that addresses the issue of romance in space, it's pretty unique. In Novemeber of 1999, Gary Cherone left Van Halen for other musical purposes. Clearly the dismantling of the rock band Extreme has brought us some promising beneficence. We are now in a new era for the band members of Extreme.
