"Medium Density Fibreboard" |
Medium Density Fibreboard is a man-made material which is ideal for the construction of furniture and wall panelling as it is strong and does not warp. It is available in a variety of thicknesses and there is even a flexible variety for making curves. It also exists in a waterproof version for humid enviroments. It is much stronger than the chipboard that is commonly used for kitchen furniture, and with the proper protection will last for many years. |
It can be finished with a layer of wood veneer or just about any paint finish. There are some new versions now on the market with a colour other than the usual brown. These can give a modern finish in their natural state, but should be protected with a matt acrylic varnish as they are naturally porous and will show every greasy finger mark without this protection. |
