William Jackson, composer and harper (and a music therapist who works with autistic children), is perhaps best known as a founder and 14-year member of the band Ossian but he's also had works commissioned by The Scottish Chamber Orchestra. Both his traditional music credentials and his experience as a composer and arranger are impressive.

This album is traditional themes arranged in a way reminiscent of movie themes. Romantic music with a capital "R". But Jackson doesn't take it too far from the roots, and he's created an album of no small beauty. Opening with a stunning cover of the Braveheart theme, this album delivers haunting melodies in moving arrangements, performed by a group of excellent musicians, and underscored by a rich but (usually) not in-your-face string section. His harp playing is sensitive and superb.

This is great music to relax by; to cook by; to sit with in front of a fire, with friends, not saying much, just letting it wash over the glow from fire.
