Crouched we hid, two little girls, under an awning of pointy branches and dark green leaves.  We were now explorers.  Out on an African safari we hid from the vicious lions that threatened our campsite.  Two pairs of eyes peered through the foliage.
"I don't see him." I whispered to Valerie.
"Shhhh..." she replied. "He's there.  He just doesn't want us to see him."
"Wait!" I whispered grabbing her arm. "He's in that tall grass.  I saw him move."
"Yes, I see him." she said. "I think it's time to make our move."
We were about to pull out our rifles and ambush the predator, when we were interrupted by a loud noise coming from behind.  The slamming door suddenly snapped me out of my fantasy and reminded me why we
were out here in the first place.
Screaming voices floated through the open windows into the chilly fall
air.  The sound stung my ears.
I sat my small body down upon the dirt.  Hugging my knees, I rocked back and forth as cold tears streamed down my cheeks.
"What about those lions?" Valerie asked.
But it was no use, my safari had been ruined.
"Hey," she started "How about we go to my house and play Barbies?  You can have first pick."
After a moment of contemplation, I responded with a nod.  She took my arm and led me through the bushes to the street where crossed and preceded to Valerie's house.
As I heard the voices rise and I heard the shout of "Jenny!" i ignored the call and ran forward without looking back.
