Welcome! Creative Writing and literature have always held a special place in my life. Maybe that's why I'm an English teacher. Here you will find ideas and activities and links to my favorite sites. The page will be updated frequently. Please visit often.

First Day Icebreakers!

On the first day of class, pass around a bowl of M&M's, Red Hots, or Skittles. (or any similar candy) The directions to the students are to take as many as they think will need to do the activity, up to 8 or 10. You should definitely set a limit! Don't tell the activity until everyone has at least 2. You start; for each piece of candy, tell one fact about yourself. Then go around the room and let each student do the same. It's also fun to do this with string or a roll of toilet tissue!
My Student's Picks!

Every year I have my students vote for their favorite novels, short stories, poems, and activities. Last year's favorites were:

Romeo and Juliet
and Hatchet are front runners in the book category.

If you've used Hollywood or Hollywood High you know why this is a favorite!
National Middle School Association Conference

I will be a presenter at the 1999 Conference in Orlando, Florida. The title of my session is "JAMing with Computers!" Jazz up an otherwise boring writing program, Reach the accelerated student and motivate the reluctant writer through the use of computer technology. I hope to see you there!
