This comp is a tribute to the honorable prophet Robert Nesta Marley's classic, "Punky Reggae Party", done for Bob Marley Music, still located at 56 Hope Road in Jamaica. I don't know if any of the designers who put together Adobe's Photoshop ever did any wallwriting, but as it turns out you can do some phat tags & never have to look over your shoulder. Check out my brothers' Jeff Wood, Bob Sauer, & Mikey Martin's pages for their Marley posters that you can buy online. And remember your roots, rudy,... originally Bob Marley, along with Peter Tosh & Bunny Livingstone were Trench Town rudeboys who played ska years before they'd collectively invent reggae!
This bit was for a big celebrity snowboarding competition sponsored by Spin Magazine in Aspen, Colorado in March of 96, & looked bad on long sleeve black Tshirts with the Spin dingbat logo on the front. And I got additional punk point demerits for the MTV coverage of the event! But I'm proud of this piece, 'cause I had to beat out every submission that my talented staff of ten vanguard digital artists at the Island Screenworks art department put together for this presentation.
R.S. Sauer & I decided to shoot a bunch of ruder than you type stuff out to Moon Records president & lead singer of The Toasters, Rob "Bucket" Hingley, since two tone is the color of our souls, & Buck chose this piece to be printed as the new Moon Records logo shirt, with this rudy on the front, & their logo on the back, & looks damned smart on an ash ringer with black sleeves & collar... I envisioned it on black, like I envision everything on black, but I digress! I wanted to do a lot more for them & all the collected bands, but I spilled my bike all over Greenwich Street coming out of the Fourth of July Scofflaws show @ the Wetlands, & took my right arm out of commission for two full months!
OK, kids, figure out who this one was for... I'm not big on NASCAR, too many damned wheels on those things! Windshields are for sissies! This amalgamation was done before they even poured the foundations for this Myrtle Beach monstrosity, for shirts & screen printed grand opening posters, so rather than use photo reference, the artist's architectual renderings were used for background layouts. Even the cars are pieced together like mad, one is hand drawn & airbrushed, one is a manipulated photo, & one is a fully rendered, photo realistic, vector based Illustrator file!
As the late Groucho Marx said, "Sorry, folks, they can't all be gems!" This one, along with many pieces that now decorate my portfolio, was shot down by Moon Records, & is now being passed around by the good staff people there to a few other bands in hopes that they'll groove on it, & kick some more work my way. You can jump off & check out Moon Records virtual storefront, although the actual one on 10th Street in the village is much cooler, they have CD jukeboxes stocked with every Moon release for your perusal, or if you're one of those poor misguided souls who think ska is a blend of punk & reggae, then both you & Gwen Stefani should point your browser over to my personal diatribe on the history of ska,... now! Also, as an addendum, this piece may not be seen in Moon catalogs anytime soon, but I just found out one of my friends in Kingston (New York...!) is getting these guys tattooed in a band circling his upper bicep. As soon as it's done, I'll be displaying photos here.

See? See how I can keep a promise? This is my buddy Dave, an original rudie from Kingston,... uhm, Kingston, New York, that is,... & as you can tell, he has a hell of an eye for a good piece of art! The inkslinging was done by our mutual good friend R.S. Sauer, who is doing some incredible work considering he's basically a neophyte. Dig that Sacred Heart, with all that intricate coloring, more like paint strokes than tattoo fills,... that was Bob's first tat! Doesn't it make you sick? The bastard! I can't wait to get up there with my new gun, & scratch a giant 'Thief' signature across his big ass!
