As I must have written three hundred times by now, Wicca is a very personal religion. I was asked, not too long ago, by someone who claims to be atheist (I don't know if I believe in such a thing), to explain my religion. He, as many people who do not particularly believe in divinity, do so for lack of scientific evidence. I do not believe that you need "proof" to believe in greater beings, but I did my best to try to explain things in a way that made sense to him and to other people who just don't get Wicca. So, whether you're a Witch or a Christian or an atheist, here's what I think.
Wicca celebrates life in all its forms. Life, undeniably, comes from the sun and the earth. Wicca worships these life sources as deities. All life is a physical manifestation of the energy from the earth and the sun. Therefore, you can think of The One as simply a great energy source, and the Gods and Goddesses as part of that. The Gods, just as energy, can never be created or destroyed, they just take different forms. They take shape as human beings, as trees and flowers and plants, as birds and bears and geese. All life, scientifically speaking, is part of one big energy system. Think of the Gods as that energy. It makes sense that way, I think. It is obvious to everyone that the sun and the moon and the earth hold great energy and control much of our daily lives. Wiccans realise this and we think that there must be a greater power that controls such miraculous events. We assign names and beings, deities, to the moon and sun and earth so that we may identify more closely with these great sources of life. Makes sense, doesn't it....
