Poetry and Prose with meaning...

At Dusk
By Evil Doug

After finishing my
Chores, I take the tractor
Back to the barn.
Fireflies start revealing
Themselves in the hot air.
Then I gaze skyward
At the glorious Sunset.

The gilded mountain
Tops blanketed by fire.
Heart red fades to purple
Then blue. Bright but
Not painful. I keep
Staring. Curious...
I hear music.

The sun now grows
Brighter, not dimmer.
Yet, all else grows
Dim. Brighter, Sharper,
Clearer sun. I relax.
"Come and rest, child," He says.
My chores are done.

The Silent Woods
by Evil Doug

It was late one autumn afternoon
When dad got the call,
Grandpa had left the hospital.
We all got into the Plymouth
And left the house.
Mom and dad were in the front seat.
"A man in his condition..." they would mumble
Back and forth.
The whole incident just
Confused me and my sister.
My dad knew where grandpa was.
We drove up into the woods.
The trees were ablaze
With red, orange, and gold.
The country is beautiful
This time of year.
We made it to the lake
At sunset, there was
Grandpa. Light was
Reflected on his face
From the water.
Dad checked grandpa's
Wrist and shook his head.
Mom wept.
"Let's go home grandpa," my sister said.
"I am," he said as he closed his eyes.
"I am home."
And then he was still.

The Sunset
by Evil Doug

We spoke at times
Words, laughter
Her voice I recall
And her face.
Distinct impressions
In my mind--
But memories only.

I remember Sunset.
The Sun slowly sinking
And then, darkness.
Glorious, yet brief.
Bright, Precious light
Descending into darkness.
The Sun is gone.

We speak--
But too quickly--
She's gone, No time
For goodbyes.
Only memories remain.
A Red Chariot
Carries her to Glory.

The Sunrise
by Evil Doug

We meet again.
Though unplanned,
This reunion is
Sweet and glorious.
Everyone's there--
All are weeping, but
They are smiling

The sun rises--
Triumphant. It
Dispells the dark Night.
It was never gone,
Just hidden away.
Now returning, in
Light and Glory.

She says she's
Been fine, happy.
It's nice here.
And the Owner so kind:
Together again, we sing.
In His presence forever.

Departures
By Evil Doug

I was unaware
Of their Trip.
They told me
Nothing, I learned
Second hand.
"I mustn't," I thought,
"No tears."

The Station is
Empty; desolate
Only those leaving
Pass by me; silent.
They pay me no heed.
They're leaving...leaving!
Yet, no tears.

I speak to them,
But they can't hear.
I shout, scream--
Nothing. They
Board the Train;
I can't stop them.
Still, no tears.

I want to say
Goodbye. Too late--
The Train starts
Moving, silently.
I run alongside
Shouting "Stop!"
Still, no tears.

The Train has gone.
I cover my face,
The Pain won't stop.
Burning in my heart
And the flood of
Weeping won't quench it.
Make it stop...stop.

An old man
Approaches me.
"Take comfort," he says
"I hear the Conductor
Is quite nice. They
Are well."
The Merciful Conductor.

Elevators
by Evil Doug

Last night, I had an obscure dream. A friend and I were waiting for an elevator going down. The two elevators before us had odd buttons and above each were two arrows; one pointing up,
and one pointing down. Each time one of the elevators would arrive, the up arrow would light up and people would rush past us. The elevator would be full, so we could not take it.
We finally got onto an elevator, but it was empty. the buttons inside would not work, so it took us up instead of down. Then I awoke...
