I got my dirty mitts on a scanner! Here's some of my photos from New Zealand, mostly in chronological order. (More are always on the way--just don't wanna hog the darn thing.) Warning: It may take a wee bit of time for all the photos to load--be patient! |

Josh's Kiwi Expedition (Lewis Pass, January,2000) |

Yet more mountains, Lewis Pass. |

A view of Devil's Pass from a distance; we climbed up and through that valley in the centre of the photo. On the way up we saw a bunch of hawks circling their nest and even a couple deer. |

The Boyle River, a river that followed us along for most of our trip. The water was cool and incredibly clear and clean--you could drink it straight from the stream without fear. |

For those of you unsure what a bivouac was, here is a perfect example of one at Devil's Pass next to the hill up to Devilskin Saddle. They are found throughout the reserve and are free for any tramper (hiker) to use. Our heavy packs lie in front, happily off our backs. |

Stopping for a nice cool swim on our way back from Devil's Pass. There were many deep pools in the meanders of the river--this particular one was about 12 feet deep, and the water was so clear you could see the bottom. You may also notice Trudor in mid-leap from the rocks above. |

This is a photo of my tent overlooking Lewis Pass just as the sun is beginning to set. This was my last night with the Kiwi Expedition. |
Last morning of the expedition. This is the view from the top of the mountain that we camped on. This is a photo of the neighbouring mountaintop about a kilometre away. You may notice on this mountain the tree-line--the elevation point beyond which the trees do not grow--it was at this height that we camped. The distance from the tree-line of this mountain to its top is the same distance I climbed to the summit of the mountain on which I stood. Got it? Good. |
