Link Farms

ZDS member Tenney Nathanson has compiled a list of useful links to Zen resources, which is particularly useful for finding some of the other sanghas connected with the western Zen teacher Robert Aitken and his dharma heirs, and placing this lineage in the wider context of the Harada-Yasutani Zen tradition.

zen stories to tell your neighbours

Zen Stories is a collection of stories from the Orient, mostly Zen and Taoist tales. Why am I suggesting that you tell these stories to your neighbors? Is it because these are among the oldest stories in human history and have withstood the test of time? Is it because Zen and Taoism are ancient religions offering profound insights into human nature, the cosmos, and spirituality?... Maybe. Or maybe it's just because they are fun to tell.

J of Buddhist Ethics

The Journal of Buddhist Ethics is the first academic journal dedicated entirely to Buddhist ethics, and is innovative in adopting a totally electronic mode of publication. In most other respects, however, it will function as a traditional scholarly journal. Research articles as well as discussions and critical notes submitted to the journal will be subject to blind peer review.

The Journal of Buddhist Ethics interprets "ethics" in a broad sense as including subject matter in the ten areas listed below.

    1. Vinaya and Jurisprudence
    2. Medical Ethics
    3. Philosophical Ethics
    4. Human Rights
    5. Ethics and Psychology
    6. Ecology and the Environment
    7. Social and Political Philosophy
    8. Cross-cultural Ethics
    9. Ethics and Anthropology
    10. Interfaith Dialogue on Ethics

Why on earth do we nutcases take up and--craziest of all--continue to subject ourselves to training in martial arts? Other people have other reasons. But for the publisher, Wayne Muromoto, it has to do with being human beings.

Practice in Daily Living

Heartland Sangha is a group of American Buddhists who practice a non-dualistic, non-sectarian, way of "Oneness" drawn from the original teachings of Gautama Buddha, Jodo Shinshu, Zen Buddhism and engaged Buddhism. We have members from several Buddhist traditions. The Heartland Sangha is affiliated with the American Buddhist Association. It is interested in American Buddhism as developed by the Venerable Rev. Gyomay Kubose.

We enjoy periodic social get-togethers and fun activities as well as involving ourselves in various social action programs. We seek "Oneness" in a supportive atmosphere of mutual development. Everybody is invited to join us.

Visit Northern Nevada Dharma Bulletin Board for calendars of Dharma groups and events in Reno/Sparks, Carson City, Gardnerville, Tahoe, and Nevada City. Contact the webmaster to add any groups or events from that geographic area.

If you follow the present day world,
you will turn your back on the Way;
if you would not turn your back on the Way,
do not follow the world.
Takuan Soho.

These pages reflect the dual nature of the samurai, the pen and the sword. The philosophical background of the martial arts has often been down played in the west. As a classicist of martial arts, I believe the philosophical foundation is not a part, but the root of all martial arts.

Sifu Wong Kiew Kit Shaolin Kung Fu, Chi Kung and Zen is the fourth generation successor from the famous Shaolin Monastery of China, and a grandmaster of Shaolin Kungfu and Chi Kung. He was also the founder-secretary and later the Deputy President of the Federation of Kungfu and Lion Dance Organizations of his home state in Malaysia.

Sifu Wong has always insisted that while Shaolin Kungfu is an exceedingly effective martial art, its greatness lies in enriching our daily life and in spiritual development.

Zen Buddhist Texts In these pages you'll find texts about Zen Buddhism, Zen meditation (zazen) and other Zen sitting practices (samu, kinhin), sayings and talks (tiesho) of Zen masters and Zen Buddhist ritual and chants of interest to both novices and those with years of practice.
