Rob Da Bank’s crew have joined up with Strongbow to play four exclusive Saturday dates at Ibiza's Benirras beach, which was reportedly known for its debauched orgies in the 60s. The first event happened earlier this month.
The guests will join the Best regulars including Ross Allen and breakdancing wig wearers, The Cuban Brothers. Festivities will run 5pm-12am and include a beach bar, and a free Sunday Best BBQ.

In the February 6th, 2003 issue, Rolling Stone magazine says on pg. 60 "Banging Beats and the return of Neneh Cherry". In an extremely favorable review of the Groove Armada cd Lovebox, Neneh is given special mention. Neneh's song "Think Twice" "is a ruling piano ballad that finds original buffalo gal Neneh crooning abot champagne down the drain. ... call it electrotrash and call it great."

some update news. Neneh Cherry's Film Debut in "ASSUMPTIONS"
Neneh is appearing in the UK short film "Assumptions". The fim was made in 2000 and stars Neneh along with Saffron Burrows. The film was released to several film festivals including the Greenwich film festival in the UK. directed by Jimo Toyin Salato, running time 6:00min.

Neneh has a portrait that is featured at England's National Gallery. This black/white photo shot in 1988.

Groove Armada recruit Neneh Cherry
Groove Armada have invited Neneh Cherry to sing on two tracks on their next album. They describe the follow-up to Goodbye Country Hello Nightclub as "very vocal and quite rock and roll." The DJ duo hope to get Norman Cook involved in producing the album, which is expected to be released in October. It also includes collaborations with Sunshine Anderson and Ritchie Havens, as well as samples from tracks by Status Quo and Eddie Grant. Groove Armada's Andy Cato told Ananova: "It's quite rock and roll, quite guitary - a bit more leather jackets and Saturday night. "We enjoyed making this album the most. This one has been brief and that's been testament to the fact that we've enjoyed ourselves. Creativity has come more easy. "There's a number of songs in the running for the first single but it's likely to be between tracks called Madder, But I Feel Good and one of Neneh Cherry's songs called Think Twice."

Recent Neneh Sightings
*** Way back in February Neneh served as DJ at London's exclusive Stork Rooms, in Regent Street, during the birthday party for designer Judy Blame. Judy is an old friend of Neneh's who can be seen in several scenes in the Neneh video "The Rise of" (1989) He is responsible for dressing Neneh during the Raw Like Sushi period.

In The Beginning ... there was Neneh!!

This isn't really news, but a bit of ripe trivia from the old days. Neneh made an appearance in the Malcom McLaren video "Buffalo Gals" way back in 1982 or 83. This was long before the solo career took off in 1989. This still is from the video. This video is available on a 45 minute compilation tape called "Duck Rock" on Island Records. OK .. enough trivia.

Carl Cox & Neneh: New Release

Carl Cox is asking fans to help him decide on a name for his third album. The DJ is collaborating with Neneh Cherry, Fatboy Slim and Erick Morillo for the new project. The new album will be released early next year. Cox has posted a message on his official website asking fans to email him with suggestions for its title. He says it is the right time to work with other DJs. "I’ve done some tracks already that Neneh Cherry’s been really interested in singing on. These are more housey-oriented; we sent them to Neneh and she came back loving them and said that it reminded her of being on the Space terrace. She really seems to understand what I’m doing." "I like to think that my last two albums have been original works but the time is now right to get together and collaborate with others, using what made all of them famous and the sound that I bring to the table too," he says.

Neneh Cherry was front row at the show of top Brazilian Designer Carlos Miele. Carlos describes his clothes as "Sensual, hybrid, Brazilian roots, movement, vibrant". U2's The Edge was treated to a surprise 40th birthday bash costing more than 20,000 pounds. The guitarist had just come off stage after the band's Barcelona gig on Wednesday (8/15) when he was flown by private jet to Ibiza's Pacha club. He was joined by mates from Dublin and celebrity guests including supermodels Elle Macpherson and Linda Evangelista and singer Neneh Cherry. Fatboy Slim spun the tunes.

He bought the double-fronted five-bedroom house in West Hampstead from Cherry - complete with a recording studio, sauna and sunken bath in the loft - but is now selling it on. Frock 'n' Roll Festival
Naomi Campbell organized a huge benefit concert/fashion show in Barcelona back in July. The proceeds from the event are promised to the Nelson Mandela Foundation. The event did not get off as planned - 16,000 were expected to attend, yet the organizers say attendance was less than 5,800. Even Nelson Mandela himself left early. Neneh Cherry and a list of other singers cancelled appearancs. Mick Jagger, Chrissie Hynde, UB-40, Eagle-Eye, Nikka Costa, and Macy Gray cancelled performances this day as well. Well, Bono from U2 did show up and ended up singing for most of the night, an why not, no one else was singing.

Neneh has contributed 2 original songs to the British indie Film Dead Bolt Dead. Neneh worked on both songs with GUM. The film's director James Rogan is only 22 and this is his directorial debut. Dead Bolt Dead opened in London in November 2000. The film's distributors are now seeking a North American open sometime this Spring. The film's synopsis says, "It's a dark thriller with a very wry sense of humour that focuses on the need to keep talking when staring down the barrel of a gun". Neneh's sister Titiyo has released her 4th cd this past month. This is Titiyo's 4th cd. The first track "Come Along" is charting high in parts of Europe. The following is an note from her record company website.
Titiyo is back with a new, rawer sound on her album "Come along". By choosing to work with the musical brains behind the Cardigans (Peter Svensson) and Kent (Jocke Berg), she's found some fantastic material and production. The first single "Come along" is a great example, with a Cardigans-like guitar riff and sensual hook. There are also a couple of lovely slower tracks, "Last time" and "Love has left your eye".
Titiyo comes, as they say, from a musical family. Her father, from Sierra Leone, is a percussionist, her mother a dance teacher (who plays piano solo on one track, "Make My Day"). It was sister Neneh Cherry who first persuaded her to take her singing seriously. Everyone else certainly does. Critics say things like; "her take on the melancholic Swedish soul is unique" ... REM's MICHAEL STIPE, BRIAN ENO, NENEH CHERRY, HOLLYWOOD star DENNIS HOPPER and author KURT VONNEGUT are all set to feature on a forthcoming DVD/CD multi-media release set to appear next year, NME.COM can exclusively reveal. The stars have been assembled by One Giant Leap, a duo comprising Faithless founder member Jamie Catto and producer Duncan Bridgeman, who spent over a year traversing the globe to put together the stellar cast. Catto and Bridgeman laid down the backing tracks for the album before they set off on the trip and simply asked those they encountered en route to add a contribution. The pair also shot hours of film footage on their trip. They intend to distil it all into a 12-chapter film and album, each chapter exploring a different grandly-titled theme, for instance 'Masks & Roles' and 'The Shadow & Inspiration'. I've justed heard some really interesting news. Eagle Eye's cd was released a long tim ago, but most of us haven't seen it. It's not been released in the US. If you recall the first single came out March 10, 2000. The reason for the delay is that Eagle Eye has had to change record companies!! Strangely enough the same thing happened to Neneh's last cd. After a whole cd was recorded she changed record labels and as of now hasn't put out a new cd in 4 years. They're both managed by the same guy. Maybe the tour dates are still valid but I don't really know. No, I'm not turning this into an Eagle Eye Page it's just that this past year the two have been so inseparable, the only way to post anything on Neneh I had to go through the Eagle Eye Connections.

Neneh has completed a short tour through Europe with Eagle Eye that ended in December 2000. The next leg of the tour will be the States. Eagle Eye's record company has comfirmed that the new cd will be released in the states in early March. The first single has been declared yet and they didn't say whether Neneh would appear with him. In March of last year the European release date of Eagle Eye's cd coincided with Neneh's birthday. A huge party was held in London to celebrate the Big Day for the 2 of them. She turned 36 last March 3 and Eagle Eye marched out his 2nd cd. So like maybe the new cd will be launched in the states on this date as well? Tony Manzi is managing both the singers so maybe we'll see Neneh's solo work again soon. Stay tuned!!!

Neneh has filmed a video with Eagle Eye Cherry for the single Long Way Home. The video was shot in London on August 2-3 by filmmaker NIck Gordon. Anton Corbjin also did a photo shoot with Neneh and Eagle Eye for the cover of the single, which, so far, has been released in Japan and Europe. The American release may be first of the year.

The Hip Hop Museum is a traveling museum display that chroncles the Hip Hop culture and music in the US, Europe and Asia. The Hip Hop Museum is presently on display in Brooklyn New York. The gallery has on display memorabilia from the most influential Rap and Hip Hop performers in the genre. Neneh's contribution is included in the collection as one of the first cross over hip hop artists to top the charts way back in the 80s with Buffalo Stance. Titiyo Jah, Neneh's sister, has completed work on her new cd which is due out near the 1st of the year. Titiyo worked on this cd with the help of Tore Johansson and Peter from the Cardigans. Titiyo has also been working with Producer Quincy Jones, III on a few cuts. (Do all the children of famous musicians know each other?) No mention of whether Neneh lends vocals.All work was done at the Tambourime Studios is Sweden. This cd is a widely anticipated release since Titiyo's last cd in 1997 received two Swedish Grammy Awards.

Neneh's old home in the Willesden section of London was put on the market earlier a couple of month's ago. The novel writer who is currently living in the house is selling the home. One of the main attractions is the recording studio Neneh and Cameron built all those years ago. Their home recording studio is still intact. This is the famous Cherry/Bear studio where Homebrew was recorded. Massive Attact and Portishead and Shara Nelson have all recorded in this home studio. If you have a few thousand pounds in your pocket ... go buy a house.

Pop Up Video, the VH-1 program, will be featuring Neneh's video Buffalo Stance on a show premiering August 8th. The theme of the show is One Hit Wonders. This is soooo not right. Yeah Neneh has had one hit in the US. But she has had tremendous success with 7 Seconds and a slew of other hits. Earlier this year the DreemTeem mixed Buddy X and Neneh was back in the top of the charts peaking at No. 2 back in March. Obviuosly it sucks when a performer like Neneh isn't released in this country. We get obnoxious programs like this.

Don Cherry: The Personification of the Pied Piper. Neneh and Eagle Eye have completed working on a documentary based on the life of their deceased father Don Cherry who died in 1995. The documentary looks at Don's life beginning in East Los Angeles California to his world travels that took him from New York to Europe. Don is described as a musical pioneer in Jazz who has played with everyone from the Slits to Miles Davis and Ornette Coleman. The Cherry family's complex home life is also looked at in the film.

Don't know how true this is but, ANYWAY... Last year in October 1999 Neneh was scheduled to record a single with Sheryl Crow. The two met in 1997 while playing the same show in Germany. Anyway Neneh recorded a song with Akasha earlier in the year. The song was Sweet Child of Mine. Neneh's version, though it was very good, was released in some markets but didn't really see the light of day. Anyway, along comes Sheryl Crow and sings the same song. The coincidence of Sheryl Crow covering the same song as Neneh is remote. Soon after Sheryl's version was recorded the scheduled date of the duet was canceled. Sheryl's version sounds a bit like Neneh's. Sheryl went on win a Grammy for the version she released.

Neneh is in the early stages of launching her new music onto the world stage. Neneh has made an appearance on the BBC music program along with Brother Eagle Eye to promote his new cd which features a duet between the two. Neneh is also appearing on the new Peter Gabriel release OVO. And lastly Neneh is performing live at the Brixton Academy in London on June 11, 2000, in London. On the bill are over a dozen British music acts . All performers are appearing as a solute to the late punk rock singer and songwriter Ian Dury. Dury was the lead singer and founder of the early punk group The Blockheads. Neneh's performances and well placed music collaborations are looking like the beginning of a campaign to promote her forthcoming cd which hasn't been given a release date. The unreleased cd was finished a while ago but stil remains unavailable.
