Grandfather Dear

To explain the inspiration that brought this poem to you, would not be easily done.
It came on a day when unfolding hearts did share. It was a few years ago when
I found this sincerity, the voice of love's desire to speak through a special flower.
It just seemed to flow through me also, to produce this final work,
that I now share with everyone who may enjoy this art of love.

I give a special thanks to this Grandfather model Dale Morris, and his beloved wife Ethel,
for all their help. The use of their warm home and hearts has made this image possible.
Ethyl's uncle was the late Finis Mitchell, who was the author of Wind River Trails. Finis
was renowned for his pioneering conservation work in the mountains of Wyoming back in
the late thirties. He painstakingly, on the backs of horses, stocked over three-hundred lakes
and streams with trout that many a fisherman has enjoyed to this day. I was honored to hear
such stories of enduring feats that patience had guided. As a child Ethel went along as a
helper, and her first hand stories warm the soul. We don't always realize the days of light
that we pass through, that are the building blocks of our unfolding stories of life. I can't
help but think of the Spirit that guided Finis to receive the deeper breath of peace that he
died with, as I am sure he saw the painted image of a father fishing with his son.

Grandfather dear, I love you so
I pray these words shall find you fair
Of body, mind, heart and soul
This moment now with you I share
Grandfather please, remember me
When times perhaps, you are alone
As I with you . . . sweet memories
That touch a depth I had not known
My open heart that is aglow
A reflection of the love you gave
Now older, wiser, to you will flow
For nourishing my younger days
Your warmth has kissed my soul so deep
My blood as yours, that runs through thee
I am your Autumn's new born leaf
That fell from such a blessed tree
Of ere my memory did begin
You sang my father's childhood rhymes
And poured out smiles, my oldest friend
As you were there and grew with time
Grandfather dear, forever so
Shall I keep thee in my heart so near
Till all our seasons, life we know
Has come and gone . . . there is no fear
So Grand . . . Grandfather dear to me
Mere words can not embrace this love
Nor the fullness of my life to be
Your blossom flowered, pure white dove
Sleep . . . Grandfather dear so sweet
Each night with thoughts that I am there
Forever yours with prayers I keep
For the Grandest Father God did bear
For I, upon your knee in curls
Remember laughter that whispers still
Within my soul, beyond this world
As a golden lamp . . . your light did fill
Amen~~Michael
