              MISSION STATEMENT

 

Located in a storefront on Hollywood Boulevard, in the center of both the historic and redevelopment district of Hollywood, California, the Community Design and Urban Research Center (CD+URC) has a mission intertwined with design and community at various scales. The Center is to enlarge the offering of opportunities for the Department of Architecture at Woodbury University, and to extend the atmosphere of scholarship and professionalism while deepening the search for understanding of place and person. Further, the mission of the CD+URC is to engage the diverse communities of Los Angeles and the Southern California Region and evolve awareness and participation in architectural and urban concerns and potentials occurs by:

  •  Providing a venue for the exploration and presentation of the multiple aspects of urbanism and community design in the Hollywood district, the City of Los Angeles and the Southern California Region.  
  • Empowering the community and its various organized entities to participate in the dialogue and design of the built urban environment.
  • Providing preliminary research, planning and design to community based non-profits and governmental agencies at low to no-cost.
  • Providing a venue for the students and faculty of the Department of Architecture at Woodbury University for the study and practice of urbanism and community design, and the relationship to architecture, in a highly urbanized environment.
  • Providing a location and focus for the Woodbury Community and other academic institutional or governmental entities interested in community outreach and design, and the ongoing investigations of urbanism.

 This mission shall be implemented by public exhibitions, lectures and symposia, through a variety of workshops and exchanges, through research and design projects, and through various publications and presentations.
