Both of my pets love to sit in front of the picture window, and watch the world go by.

It is a particular point of pride for me that my cat has adjusted, and even shows signs of fondness for the dog we got when she was 10 years old. It is however, like most relationships, layered, and somewhat complicated. When I am patting the two animals together, the cat will often rub up against the dog like they are the best of friends, then a second later she will whirl around and swat or bite him. The dog, a hyper border collie, acts amazingly stoic about this, merely turning and lifting his head so that it is out of the line of danger. For a while I was thinking that the cat was a nasty piece of work in her treatment of the dog. Then one day I was looking outside and noticed the dog jumping up and down in front of the cat. He did everything in his power to make her run, and when she finally lost her nerve and ran, he gave her a merry chase. Now when the cat swats the at dog, I think it’s pay back.
