Same Place Different Time

The Alberta Badlands are a site to behold. From a great distance you notice a crack in the landscape of the undulating prairies. As you get closer the crack gradually expands, until you find yourself driving down into this enormous valley carved by the power of wind and water. The name Badlands, refers the fact that these were indeed bad lands to take your horse or cattle through. Except for a narrow ribbon of vegetation along the Red Deer River, which threads it’s way through this enormous carved out area, the land is largely barren rock. These soft rock formations with their sculpted Hoodoos, sensuous undulations, and bold stripes representing periods of time many million years in our past, are still in the process of eroding, Each year new dinosaur bones are revealed, making the badlands one of the richest dinosaur fossil areas in the world.

The Pronghorn is an amazing and unique animal, with no living relatives, which inhabits the Prairies of western Canada, and the United States. This was more or less the same area inhabited by the predatory dinosaur Deinonychus which lived about 100 million years ago. I have used my artistic license to play with the time line. The pronghorns are uncomfortable, but not panic stricken by the sudden appearance of a dinosaur. After all what can a 100 million year old ghost do?
