Day 8 - Going Home!
We hit breakfast, which I barely picked at because by now my stomach was revolting from all the grease laden food. I had fruit, and a fruit shake, and some pastries. It was a quick breakfast because we had to check out by 9:40 am, and our shuttle picked us up at 10:10. Here's another great tip - CALL for your bellboy at least 2-3 hours before you need to see your luggage in the lobby!!! We called about one hour before 10:10 pickup, and our SHUTTLE came, and our luggage was still not there, after repeatedly asking the hotel manager, the bell boy manager, the guy outside, and everyone who was supposedly rushing around to find out where "Daniel" our bell boy was, and why our luggage was not at the lobby yet. We held up a shuttle with 4 other people for about 10 more minutes until it finally arrived. Luckily, the people on our shuttle happened to be people that lived about 3 miles from our house that we knew!!! haha. We had used the same travel agent to book, but they had been smart and stayed in Playa del Carmen... At least they were not irritated with us having held up the shuttle.
On to the airport, it was pretty small - and boarding our plane, here's another tip - there's a good chance this will happen to you so listen up! BE at your gate when they tell you to be there. about an hour prior. Because, you will most likely NOT board your plane through a little tube gate like at a U.S. airport. You'll get onto a shuttle bus about 30-45 minutes prior to your takeoff, and get shuttled out to the plane, where you walk up an outdoor loading ladder. Last time I did this, I was flying on a 10 person Cesna... SO, don't go browsing off in the airport stores and assume you can board your plane up until 10 minutes before leaving time. And those shuttles don't wait! They load you up, and go!
So once on board, it was a pretty quick, and uneventful flight home. Much shorter time, because we caught a tailwind. We touched down in Baltimore about 5 pm, right in time for rush hour traffic - and amongst the nice, unmelted, dirty snow and cold weather. WELCOME HOME!!! Ugh - I actually was never more happy to see this ugly place that I now appreciate a whole lot more!!! Sometimes it just feels good to be home. After all, I missed my furry babies...
