Having roots in three of the world's largest metropolises, Nanci Kwok's heritage is as diverse as her artwork is provoking. Currently a resident of Los Angeles, Nanci spent the majority of her youth in Queens, New York after leaving her native Hong Kong at the age of seven. In 1993, she moved to Malibu to attend Pepperdine University, where she received a Bachelor's Degree in April 1997 with a double major in Fine Arts and Advertising. After a short-lived residence in Singapore, the artist returned to California, where she is most in her element. She unveiled her first solo art exhibit in February 1998 -- a collection that stir a quiet awakening to the prevailing theme of rebirth. Nanci Kwok's stimulating collection of abstract multimedia artwork reveal in snapshots her exploration of and confrontation with the very core of the psyche. Each piece represents a daring examination of internal human components that are universal. When viewed together, the series narrates a self-portrait that couples the agony of birth with the frailty and splendor of life. |
