PrincessofCups
Princess of Cups

The Princess of Cups, emerging as she is from the depths of the ocean like a mermaid, clearly has something to offer. The contents of her cup may consist of a bounty of natural affection, untrammelled by the edifices of caution; these contents may consist of the raw talents of her inspiration; a song, a folio of drawings, or a poem. In fact, the creator of this pack has found that this card often emerges whenever it is meant to signify an art student: the Princess of Cups often seems to describe a very creative, sensitive individual.

As she is a Princess, however, her very real talents are still untutored and therefore naive. It is always possible that this individual may have all this knocked out of her through the rigours of formalistic training and so on. Her sensitivity means that she may be easily hurt by adverse criticism, which means that without some understanding, her potentials may not be realised, as she loses faith in the very wellsprings of her inspiration.

Negatively, this card may indicate not just a dreamer, but a freeloader who uses her appearance of vulnerability to cull favours from others. Practicality and common sense are not her strong points and as, like all the Cups, she likes to take care of others, this character may be a sucker for a hard-luck story herself. Then, this Princess may become the ultimate "victim" type drowning in a sea of misfortunes which to some extent may be of her own making. It is clear that the most positive qualities of this card are more likely to emerge where it is supported in a spread by stronger, more stabilising cards such as a few Coins, or Trumps like Strength or Temperance.

Sometimes, this card, along with the Ace of Cups, may augur the start of a new relationship - particularly with a younger person - that may bring much happiness. This may include actually having children. For older querents, this card may hint at creative potentials or a more sensitively attuned side to the nature which is seeking outlets for growth. Thus, the card may describe a physicist who has just started to write poetry, the engineer who has now started to take up guitar lessons, and so on.
