It was difficult not to satirise this character somewhat when this particular deck of cards was first conceived. In her most superficial - and perhaps most negative - manifestation, the Queen of Coins may describe an out-and-out materialist for whom keeping up with the Joneses has become her sole raison d'être. The illustration for this card is intended to describe this; surrounded by the trappings of expensive furniture and decor, the clothes and demeanour of the Queen of Coins do show a certain preoccupation with money and status, as shown, for example, by the pearl necklace.
This card traditionally has a connection with the Devil. In view of what has already been said, it is perhaps not difficult to see why; this Queen may be more tempted than most of the Court cards to sell her soul in exchange for status and security. At her most negative, the Queen of Coins may not only be a snob with rigidly conventional views on most things, she may also be a totally avaricious gold-digger, interested only in what she can gain from others.
Usually, however, the Queen of Coins in a spread suggests more positive qualities. As with all the Coins to some degree, this card does suggest, on the whole, a positive response to the whole process of initiation within the material world. Here, the Queen of Coins stands as a most resourceful survivor, one who has successfully negotiated and mastered the world of business, or of a career or even, most traditionally, that of running a household. This card may, therefore, signify a superb ally in all matters to do with practical matters, know-how and resources where her knowledge may frequently be invaluable. She cannot, however, be hurried, so that an inpatient querent may fall foul of her, should he or she try to push things, particularly in matters which may involve some measure of red tape. The Queen of Coins is not necessarily a bureaucrat, but most things do have their allotted time and place with her.
Usually busy and hard-working by nature, the Queen of Coins in a spread does naturally promise results and ultimate success, wherever this card describes the querent and her chosen endeavours.
