Abagail's Background
Many people have asked me over and over...
Who is Abagail???
|
|
Abagail I |
Abagail II |
Historically, great vessels and machines are named after women.
As I became involved in computers, especially Windows '95 systems,
I began to realize that just like vehicles, computers have personalities.
And as such, I decided to give mine a name:
Abagail
Abagail I was a system custom built for me to basically learn on.
She was a wonderful system, and now spends her days in quiet semi-retirement
living with my mother and grandmother and their 2 cats.
Abagail II was custom built as well, but this time by me.
She is the culmination of everything I've ever learned about,
and every thing I ever wanted in a computer.
Planned, designed, assembled, and programmed by me
from the ground up to be the ultimate graphic machine.
The following photo's were shot over the weekend she was built.
It is a glimpse of what is inside of her, and what I did to create her.
|
All this started with a huge pile of boxes on my living room couch whle I hunted down all the components I wanted
I was very picky about what I bought, and did a lot of shopping around to find just the right parts.
I suppose not a very glamorous beginning, but this is it.
|
|
Of course the first thing any good computer needs is a brain.
Abagail II has a Pentium II motherboard and 300 Mhz Genuine Intel Processor
She also has 128 Megs of DIMM Ram, upgradable to almost 400 Megs.
|
|
Next came the drives. All 4 of them...
Abagail's main storage is a 5.2 gig Western Digital Hard drive, and an IOmega Internal ZIP drive.
She also has a TEAC 16x multimedia drive, and a Hewlett Packard 2X CD Burner |
|
And then came all the media cards, everyone built by Creative Labs:
Soundcard: Soundblaster Awe64 Gold
Videocard: GraphicBlaster Extreeme
Accellerator: Voodoo2 Blaster (with 12 Megs onboard)
Modem: ModemBlaster 56K Flash.
|
|
At this point, I installed Windows '95, all the media-card drivers,
and Norton's Anti--Virus 4.0, just to be safe
|
|
Once the drivers are installed, I still have one more card.
The SCSI card for my scanner.
Abagail has a Hewlett Packard Scanjet 5P. And while it may not be the newest scanner HP makes,
with the SCSI card it's one of their fastest and clearest scanners. Definitly worth the headache of another card.
|
|
And with that, all that's left is her programing.
I don't have nearly enough room to list all her programs, but in a nutshell the most important programs are:
Adobe Photoshop 5.0, Newteks Lightwave 5.6, Corel Draw Suite 7.0, and Microsoft Office '97 pro (including publisher).
As well a few goodies of my own......
|
and that's my Abby....
