The Race
On this day feeling so alone,
I try to pray but the words won't come.
So I sit, silent, still,
and then my mind begins to fill.
Not the words to a prayer.
(I feel a presence in the air.)
Soon a picture, I begin to see.
In my mind, a vision, in me.
*****************
I am sitting under a great oak tree.
A race takes place in front of me.
Somehow I know, it is "The Race of Life".
I wasn't participating, so filled with strife.
The presence I felt, begins to show.
A man appears before me now.
I recognize him from my past.
His name I know, it is Jesus.
He outstretched his hand, to take in mine.
Slowly lifting me off the ground.
He said, "The Race of Life you will run again."
I said, "No, I can't my friend."
"Come with me," I heard him say.
"Let us take it day, by day.
I took one step and then another.
Slowly now we walked together.
Before I knew it, I was at a full pace run.
A new Race had just begun.
As I was running on Life's race track.
He was suddenly gone. I looked back.
He was waving me on, a smile on his face.
"Go now," he said, "finish the Race."
*******************
Now I know that I am not alone,
When it seems I'm on my own.
I now have an Eternal Friend.
Throughout the Race, and after it ends.

My wonderful friend Larry,
told me the story of a "vision"
he once had. I wrote and dedicate
this poem to him. :)
