This site contains some art that I
have done over the last 14 years. It is only a small selection of pieces
but they were chosen to give an indication of the range of media used.
I have decided to create this web site not because I think the work is
particularly good but because there are thousands of other 'untrained artists'
who might enjoy the site and gain some encouragement. I have experimented
with a variety of media and for each one, the equipment used is very
basic and costs very little. You do not need expensive paints and canvasses
to produce a painting that will look good in a frame on the wall.
The site is structured
like a gallery. When you enter a room you will be faced with thumbnails
of all the pictures in that room. Simply click on a picture for a closer
view and a short description.
About me:
My name is Dominic
and I have dual nationality, British/Swiss. Lately, I have returned to student life, studying at Cambridge University. I have always found drawing good fun but it is only since
graduating from my first degree at Bath University that I have changed from doodles or sketches on the
backs of envelopes to proper artwork on clean paper. All my collection
is at home with only a few pieces framed and hanging on my walls. I have
never sold any and would never have the heart since each work is so different.
I have displayed a couple of pictures in an exhibition once but merely
to gauge reactions. I now use drawing and painting as a satisfying and
relaxing hobby. I am interested in art purely as a personal thing, but since
I know friends and family appreciate seeing my work, this web site can
serve that purpose. I go through phases of being motivated and producing
2 or 3 works in a month, then I lose heart and might not do anything for
several months. I try to find time in the evenings after studying or at weekends.
It has to fit in between my other hobbies such as running, cylcing (and now triathlons) and playing the guitar. I do less painting in the summer since I'm often out either rowing, swimming, or I'm down the pub!
