Icarus switched to stealth mode even if there was no way to escape the planet's collapsing stellar field. He knew that the discontinuity in space and time can swallow flight-objects like mosquitos in a net. Who knows how many have been lost and devoured by the discontinuities. As he approached the sun, he tried all the standard approach activation codes. Those efforts were not succesful. Continuing to circle this solar collosus caused him to lose altitude. Automatic search-and-error subroutines kicked-in to compensate but to no avail. Those who have seen the disaster have not failed to be moved by the tragedy. No one deserved such a fate.
