A central issue of contemporary urban design in both North America and Europe is the re-use of vacant areas as urban parks rather than extending the existing urban fabric. The City of Rome has many significant vacant areas in its core and periphery that contain very visible archaeological remains. One of these vacant and peripheral areas is the Park of the Aqueducts, which exists in a undefined and marginal condition in the southern part of the city, between the via Appia Nuove and via Tuscolana. The interesting aspects of its location are that it contains the ancient route of the Via Latina, and that it exists between Rome and the Alban Hills, between the city and the Roman Campagna. Within the limits of the park are extensive remains of the aqueducts Claudio and Felice, and some Medieval remains including the Torre Fiscale and the Casale Roma Vecchia.

The intentions of this design proposal is to revitalize this part of the Roman periphery with cultural and public use so that it becomes a place of culture, archeology, and nature. A place in Roma for citizens and tourists alike to roam in; to be educated, to reflect on.
