"Sunset at Caldera" Caldera Port is Costa Rica's main port on the Pacific. Freight ships as well as cruise liners dock every day. Last Tuesday (Dec 30) while we were spending some vacation at Puntarenas (main town very close to Caldera Port), I noticed one of the biggest cruise liners ever in my life. It was about noon time so I grabbed my car and drove to the port (about 15 min. drive) to plan ahead the picture taking. I scouted the area in search for a good position to grab both ship and sunset. I went back and picked up camera, film, tripod and a couple of lenses. My choice of film was Kodak Royal 25, since I am planning a poster size enlargement. I chose to shoot from shoreline, across the port, in line with sun and ship. When the sun was aproaching the top of the ships' sillhouette, I shot five consecutive frames with different composition. Lens was Pentax FA 80/320 at 320mm setting. Exposure was at 1/500sec & f/16. Light measurement was a wild guess since I was having direct sun into viewfinder. As soon as I shot the first five frames, I noticed a nice boulder formation also sillohuetted by the sky. Since it was too late to plan for a double exposure in camera setting, I removed the roll (leader out), rethreaded it and shot a couple of frames (on top of the first two frames) of the rock and cliff formation. Exposure this time was at 1/60 at f/5.6. This picture is frame 2. Both exposures were shot with tripod mounted camera (Slik 444 Sport) using 2 sec mirror up timer. By the way, the PZ1P will NOT rethread the film in the exact position, as I always mark (felt pen) the film when loading (to keep register in case things like this show up) and second exposed frames were about two film notches out of register. comments?
