"Calla Lily"
by Bill D. Casselberry
(200mm f5.6 Teler-Takumar / with mild extension)
This is one of the first set of macro/close-up type images
I made last spring. I had just gotten my second Takumar
(a 105mm f2.8 Super-Takumar) & had been experimenting
with a couple sets of extension tubes. As I learned how the
working distance varied w/ the focal length of the lens, I also
used my first Takumar, an old preset 200mm f5.6 Tele-Takumar,
as well as a 3rd party 50mm.
[ aside : ] I had gotten this 105mm Takumar to get a prime in
the portrait/macro-capable range ; now I have about 14
of these old beauties !! So -- Beware the "LensBug" ;^)
This particular Calla Lily was a tricky one to frame up, as I had
to try various lens & tube lengths 'til I could get a good full
framing from my only vantage point of about 3 or 4 ft. As best
I can recall, a little under 50mm of tubes & the 200mm did the
trick. Exposure with the Spotmatic F was at f22 or f16 for a fairly
long time, perhaps a full second on Kodak Royal Gold 100asa film.
Most of the other shots I did that day were open enough that I
could find a closer position w/ the 105mm I was "testing". Tripod
support via Bogen 3046 legset & #3055 ball head & cable release.
Ambient shaded sunlight ; no flash fill ..... WYSIWYG ;^)
