Hello, my name is Ed Mondragon. I have been an elementary school teacher for 29 years. The last 11 years I have worked in the capacity of Media Center Specialist, which I enjoy most. It allows me to work with children, their books, and various media equipment. This includes Apple and IBM computers; my preference are Macintosh computers. I find them easier to set up and use.
My background in art goes way back to my college days. I graduated with a BA in Elementary Art Education and Elementary Education (double endorsement). I was hired as a combination art and classroom teacher in the beginning and managed to teach this way for 15 years. The school district could not support full time elementary art instructors; so teaching art in my building was determined by the pupil/teacher ratio. Years where the ratio was favorable I taught art and science; years in the reverse I found myself teaching strictly classroom.
When the position of media specialist opened; I reluctantly applied for the position and was accepted. In this new position I found myself working with various media and lately more and more with computers. Setting up computer labs were to be evolutionary starting with the old Apple IIe computers and now with the PowerMacs and iMacs of today.
Working with these upper end computers gave me an avenue to come back to art, though I am not teaching art as I would like. I was intrigued by the possibilities of computer assisted graphic art. I started by using simple drawing programs like MacPaint and moving to Color It!, Photoshop. I now find myself having great fun with Bryce 3D and Poser by using them to complement each other.
In my retirement I have moved away from Apple computers and now use Windows based computers. Currently, most of - if not all - my computer generated graphics are created with a Dell Dimension computer.
I hope you have enjoyed your visit and come back soon.
