BIG COUNTRY are still the best!
Stuart Adamson is an amazing talent, and few musicians, rock or otherwise, have sent me into such a state of elation over the years.
Very trendy now to slag off the '80s as a decade for ridicule, but there were select bands worthy of praise then and now! Don't forget nor overlook
Big Country sound like someone being chased on horseback. The Bunnymen sound like plaster falling off the walls. Sounds that get you moving!
Are any of these '90's bands near as "magical"
as these two from the '80's??? Depends where
you are at this point in your life maybe, but
the answer is probably "no." (Despite what the
'90's bands like to say!)
At this point I shall pay a one line tribute to many
other uplifting guitar (and even guitar-synth!) bands
of the '80s--let us never forget the jubilant works of
U2, the Alarm, Simple Minds, the Chameleons, the Smiths,
Adam and the Ants, Siouxsie & the Banshees,
Ultravox...most anything Steve Lillywhite got his hands
on...(ok, our bask is over!) But please recall that
'80's music had a distinct
sound very much its own. Nearly all the '90's
picks on my list are "throwbacks" to the '60's
and '70's. Ah, in the end it's all what makes
your brain happy...
Ok, get on with reading those '90's picks
Or choose to relive the '80's and forget the '90's and go back to the main page of chuckles.
