SIGNAL OF CHANGE

I hear them when summer leaves
have colored gold
on crystal mornings turning cold
Long necks stretched like compass needles
pointed south and fly in V
                     formation
                     perfect symmetry
                     through skies of sapphire
and sing to me a sad song,
                     a lonely goodbye melody
                     taking summer with them
as winter winds come rushing in.
