From the 12th century the ancient republic of Amalfi became famous for the manifacture of paper. this manifacture perhaps of Arab origin (bacause the Arabs imported and spread in west the use and the manifacturing of paper wiche they learnt from the Chineses) flourished until the end of 18th century.
In the Mills Valley there were 16 paper-mills placed

among acid fruit, ovchardsand waterfalls. The latters were a lasting call for foreign artists and poets who exalted the beauties of the vally during the 19th century. Now the valley is protected by the Natural Reservation called "Valle delle Ferirere

Sopme paper mills are still working and into one of them has been located the Paper Museum .

The Confalone paper-mill is a five floors building, 10 meters in length, which bars the valley.

The part of building in the picture was perhaps the paper drier.
