| In the eastern slope of Apuane Alps, world famous for the quality of their marble, there is the artificial lake Vagli, made in 1941-1953 damming the |

mountain torrent named Edron. The dam covered the small village of Fabbrica di Careggine, founded in the 13th century along the river-banks. |
| Every ten years, next time in 2004, the lake is emptied to service the dam: for |
| about two months the village wakes up from its wet sleep and welcomes a lot of curious people on its muddy roads. |  |
