What a quaint idea, and it sounds nice... but it's not true.
In this world everyone's psyche is assaulted from the moment we enter to the moment we quit it. Our personalities are shaped by the people we meet and observe. We are influenced, in part, by our impressions of those people and how we see and think they act.
Freud spoke about the three parts of the human psyche... the id, ego, and superego. The id represents the drives that influences our actions in ways that we can not always control. The superego is often described as a conscience, but it could also be seen as an amalgamation of all our percieved expectations upon us by others.
The third part, the ego, is the core. It is the part of our mind that is the really us. The superego and id only affect or influence the ego: they make suggestions. It is still the job of the ego to act, it is still our decision.
So when we open our minds up to new ideas, opinions, or perspectives we are enriching our minds and giving our egos new options and paths to follow.
We all have and hear voices. You only have to listen.
