HANDY TIPS

Chewing gum after eating and before bed will stimulate saliva flow that helps prevent ordinary acid reflux.

FOOD: Since I don't like to cook .... and I arrive home STARVING every day, I find it helpful to bake a turkey (or chicken) breast on Sunday. I can heat it up during the week, or use it in salads or just plain nibble on it while I steamed my veggies. Sandy in Minnesota

CRUTCHES: When I was on crutches after hip replacement, I would hook a large plastic bucket to a belt buckled loosely around my waist, to carry feed to my chickens or whatever I needed to pack around. Sarah in Arkansas

DEEP RELIEF(Formerly Deep Gesic): This product provides temporary, penetrating, warn relief of arthritis pain, joint aches, muscle aches, backachs, strains, sprains and leg cramps. It is greaseless, non-staining and washable. Active Ingredients: methyl salicylate 12%, menthol 2%.

COLD HANDS: When at the keyboard you can shine a light from a lamp on them for warmth. I have a reflector lamp on an adjustable stand that works good for this. It originally was a photography light.

LL Bean sells silk glove liners that are very thin and warm

WATER: " As I get older (Ha!), I tend to forget to drink my gallons of water per day. So, I finally remembered that I had a timer on my watch. So I set it for 1 hour increments and when it goes off, I go knock down 16 ozs. of water, then reset the timer. Makes it very easy to remember. Also - I have found using a small glass - 4-6oz. makes it much easier to consume 16 ozs of water. Don't ask me why - but it is much easier to drink that small glass, refill it and drink it again then it is to try to drink a really big glass of water."

NOTES: When you shut down your computer for the night, send yourself an email for what you want to remember to do the next day. from Geoff

RICE BAGS: Several people have suggested using small cotton bag filled with rice. It can be put in the freezer or heated in the microwave to apply to sore joints. It conforms nicely around the joint.

ALL PURPOSE HOUSEHOLD CLEANER: This works as well as store bought.

¼ cup baking soda
1 cup ammonia
½ cup white vinegar
1 gallon warm water
