"Antibiotics for Arthritis? Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is an auto immune disease that often targets women ages 20 to 50. Many times it begins with stiffness and swelling in the hands and feet, and can eventually cause crippling joint deformities. Now there's hope from an antibiotic that, when given early enough, can lessen symptoms dramatically. Researchers gave minocycline
to 23 recently diagnosed RA patients. After six months, 15 saw their
symptoms reduced by half. After three years, 11 patients were symptom-free,
or nearly so. Researchers say the study could add weight to the theory
that an infectious agent may contribute to RA. -- John Hastings in Health"
