How could you forget?
Cleaning out the house of a rather eccentric relation, Dead Doris,
I divided the photographs into piles for each strain of her family.
The woman lived to be 87 and had a LOT of photo's. I had tried the
last few years to get her to identify people I didn't recognize from
my ministrations, but her eyesight was gone and I didn't always succeed.
I found the photo in the piece, of such a charming little kid, and no
one could tell me who it was. Dead Doris had put the photo carefully
into an otherwise empty scrap book, it was alone and not labeled.
I asked the few older folks left in her family if any of them recognized
the kid. No one did. It really bothered me. I wondered if the kid had
lived and died and nobody remembered. I tied a little string on the
finger, so we wouldn't forget.
