Burnt (Self Portrait) 1995 Found wood, wire, fire debris
I found the piece of fire debris, which is at the center of the sculpture on the street. I felt a kinship to it. I felt it represented the heart and soul of me at that time. I brought it into my studio and chose the four pieces of drift wood nailing the three front pieces to a rusty, weathered, unsteady back piece that holds the sculpture up. The barbed wire wrapped about is self explanatory, in my so literal way, the wire imprisons my burnt heart and soul. It is a total self portrait of me at that time.
