Cothran are just that up until a death entry made, apparently, sometime in 1970 by my grandfather (George M. Carlton) listed her as "Mrs. Elizabeth D. (Cochran) Carlton wife of F. L. Carlton died in Portland Oct. 31, 1940 aged 73 years 6 months 26 days." There is no other reference to "Cochran" nor to "Elizabeth" ... although "Elizabeth" is not an unreasonable leap. This same reference (Ira Carlton Bible) makes mention under the spouse birth records of Lizzie D. Cothran's having been born (no date) "Newcastle, ME" ... there is, however no previous reference to Cothran in Newcastle and the Family seems to have been southern in origin ... an unconfirmed reference to South Carolina seems to exist.
