THE GONG

Begin this journey by clearing your mind of all thoughts. Imagine pouring a bucket of color wash over whatever thoughts rest in your mind. Choose any color you wish and allow the color to fill your awareness.

Against the color screen in your awareness, bring into being the image of a circle. Allow the circle to become a large metal disc and notice its color. Feel the metal with your hands and notice its luster. Step back and watch the disc become a gong, suspended from a frame of your design. Look carefully at the gong as it hangs, examine its design, run your hands over it. Step back from it and see it from a distance.

In your mind's eye, place the gong in a setting that is sacred to you. It may be in a temple, on an island, in a forest, on a mountain, in the midst of a city, or on a plateau. Wherever you place the gong, it is a place where spirit and body are together.

As you gaze at the gong, be aware of this sacred place. Smell the air, see what surrounds you, hear the sounds that enter your being. Allow yourself to hear the smallest sound, allow yourself to hear chaos and silence. Watch the gong, and when you are ready, invite the gong to ring. Listen to every wave of sound, hear it ring to the core of your being. Let yourself be carried on the wave of sound as the gong rings. When the gong again hangs silent, allow it to fade from your sight. Become aware of your breath. Become aware of your body. Return to this place and this time by taking three deep breaths, breathing out as deeply as you breathe in. Know that you can return to this sacred place to be one with your spirit whenever you bring the gong into your mind.
