Schnids' Adventures in the World of Movies

An Archive of Glee and Cinematics

For the uninitiated, Josh Schneider (aka "Schnids") is a resident of Whitmyre, and the host of a Saturday-evening phenomenon known to us all as Movie Night. And in advertising for these shindigs, he sends out mass e-mails to those who prove themselves Worthy (that is, everyone in the building, I believe). For some time now, I have been reading these e-mails and thinking, "Gosh, what nifty little mini-reviews. Sure would be cool if someone archived these." So, I sought permission, received it, and now have nothing better to do on a Friday afternoon than to piddle with my web page so that all of the teeming masses can seek Schnids' wisdom in choosing the Perfect Flick.

Big

Could we really say the semester has begun until the first Movie Night announcement is made? I think not. Well, maybe I overestimate its importance, but it feels nifty. Anyhoot, I brought up some movies from home that I haven't seen in a good long while, and I'm looking forward to actually sitting down and watching them. This week's movie is Big. You know, it's the one with the floor piano scene. Well, if you'd like to join me, I'll be starting the movie at 8:30 Friday night in room 203.

Get Shorty

Greetings, sailors. This week, I am going to watch Get Shorty. Don't let anyone tell you it sucks, because it's quite the nifty and funny flic. I would love for each and every one of you to join me for this cinematic experience. I will welcome you with open arms and a cold root beer (maybe). Join me at 8:30 Friday night in room 203. Time for a cartoon!

The Jamaica Mistaka

Joe vs. the Volcano

This week, I am still in the mood for an 80's movie, but, specifically, for Joe versus the Volcano. It is a Tom Hanks/Meg Ryan movie that rates as one of the coolest and funniest movies I have ever seen. I still remember a friend collapsing in laughter from the "banana in the face" scene. I highly recommend seeing it at least once, and this Friday is the perfect opportunity (boy, can you smell the cheese?). We'll be starting at 8:30 this Friday night in room 203. Hope to see you there!

The name means "Little island with a BIG volcano."

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

This isn't the last movie night, but it may turn out to be just that for those of you who are leaving before next Friday. I was going to show A Christmas Story (You'll shoot you're eye out, kid!), but the IUP movie channel has probably made sure that you have seen it multiple times this month. Still being in the mood for a Christmas flick, and refusing to watch Jimmy Stewart, I am thinking that it's a good week for Clark Griswold. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation is this week's selection. I'll be watching it at 8:30 this Friday night in room 203, and you will be welcomed with a big hug if you join me!

The Princess Bride

Lend me your ears! I am damn happy to be back amongst all you fine people, and I plan to celebrate. A Movie Night of epic proportions is needed! But, a regular get-together in my room (still 203) will do fine. I'm watching the Princess Bride and drinking lots of root beer at 8:30 on Friday night. You are more than welcome to join me, countrypersons (I'm so PC!).

Cheerio!

Pulp Fiction

Whilst watching many movie over break, I fell into a Tarantino mood. As a result, I realized how long it's been since I've seen Pulp Fiction. It sounds like a good movie night movie, so I choose to share my bliss with you all. If you would like to join me, there would be much rejoicing. I'll be starting the flic at 8:30 on Friday night in room 203.

Raiders of the Lost Ark

Okay, this is the last movie night of the semester. I have mixed feelings about that, but one thing is for certain. We must go out with a great movie. As I was listening to my plethora (I love that word) of movie themes, I came across a movie I haven't seen in quite a while, Raiders of the Lost Ark. Harrison Ford, Nazis, a great theme, and that oddly, but perfectly spherical, big boulder thing. If you would like to join me for this masterpiece of Americana, I will be starting the flic at 9:00 on Friday night in room 203. If I don't see you before you leave, I wish you nothing but the tastiest of holidays.

Say Anything

Hey, I think it's high time we get some more 80's cheese flowing. This week's movie will be Say Anything, with John Cusack. It's definitely cool cheese (hey, it's John Cusack), but it's not exactly your typical cheese. That's all I'm going to say. You are quite welcome to join me this Friday night in room 203. The movie will be starting rather late because I have obligations to the Open Door Friday night. I'm lookingto start between 10:15 and 10:30. Cheers!

Starship Troopers

Hey, gang!
This Friday, I feel like watching something much cheesier than last week. Platoon, while being made in the heart of the 80's, really didn't do much for my cheesy side. So, we need a war movie that we can laugh at, and I have found just the one. Starship Troopers!!! It's entertaining in the extreme. I must warn you that it involves goo and bugs and blowing up gooey bugs, but the one-liners and limited gratuitous sex more than make up for it. I hope to see you there. As always, it will be at 8:30 in room 203. Cheerio!

They Live

For quite a while now, I have wanted to show They Live for movie night. This week, I am finally going to go ahead and show this weird flic. It's an action movie done by John Carpenter. It has guns, explosions, alien conspiracies, subliminal messages, and "Rowdy" Roddy Piper. There is no way I can explain this movie that won't make it sound ridiculously bad. All you have to go on is my word that it's one entertaining movie for the ages. I will be starting at 8:30 Friday night in room 203. I hope to see you there.

The electric hosehead

When Harry Met Sally

This week, I've been on a bit of a romantic kick, and I realized it's been a while since I've watched a good romance for movie night. In my opinion, nothing beats When Harry Met Sally, so let's watch that this Friday. I'll be starting at 8:30 if you would like to join me. Hope to see you there.

With Honors

What is it that makes a great movie? I once heard it said that, according to most guys, it's aliens . . . and explosions . . . and breasts . . .and . . . aliens with big, exploding breasts! Umm, that has nothing to do with the movie this week. I'm in the mood for a good drama, and I have decided to watch With Honors. It's a wonderful little flic with Brendan Fraser (Encino Man!!!) and Joe Pesci. If you are at all interested, drop by the old domicile in room 203 at 8:30 on Friday night. Take it easy, and drop me a line if you still have no idea who I am.

A loving spoonful

Go back home.
