This was also directed by a woman (Mary Lambert -- Pet Sematary and sequel). But it was written by two unknown guys, probably just so they could attend the casting calls and hear nubile young actresses breathily read their drooling post-adolescent innuendo.
It revolves around Adrien (the first major role for Lori Heuring, who looks like she could be Sarah Jessica Parker's younger sister after you threw a cosmetic surgeon's gift catalog at her), a troubled wench who gets out of a mental hospital to work at a posh East Coast oceanside resort. We know she's troubled, not just because she's been incarcerated, but because we get a glimpse at her personality file, which describes her as an "erotomatic type." Now, I don't know what an "erotomat" is, but just the sound of it gives me the sneaking suspicion I've been doing my laundry at the wrong place. Adrien gets invited into the "Hilton Head 90210" crowd by invitation from Brittany (soap actress Susan Ward) (hint: beware any movie with an Adrien and a Brittany), a scheming latent bisexual who favors lipstick and eye shadow in colors not found in nature. Wholly unintriguing intrigue follows, along with a laughable strapless catfight.
The In Crowd is a boring, unimaginative mess populated by faces that are mostly unrecognizable unless you remember Daniel Hugh Kelly, from the early 80s TV show "Hardcastle and McCormick," who plays a weak-willed psychiatrist. It has no suspense, no drama, no talent, no imagination, no opaque undergarments, and only a PG-13 rating. If that sounds like your cup of ginseng, you could pick up a Victoria's Secret catalog instead and save yourself $7. F
