Mysterious & Proud one of the most amazing animals ever.

I've been trying to find a good way to teach people about wolves, there are so many beliefs out there it isn't funny so what better way to tell you about wolves than to take you step by step in the raising of my wolf

NaNook.

Now by all means I don't mean for you to run out and buy one cause I'm telling' you now they are lots of work and you never know how a wolf is going to turn out. I've been fortunate to have had a very good wolf in the past (Keeta) and I hope another coming up (NaNook). If you work or are not at home LOTS I don't suggest a wolf as a pet, they are very destructive and hardheaded.

Okay as they say, "Let the show begin."

NaNook is 14 weeks old this week and weights 24 lbs. He's a quarter huskey, part Arctic Wolf and part Timber wolf all together 3-quarter wolf.

Don't let this sweet face fool you, under it is a very mischievous devil, ask my going on 3rd pair of tennis shoes and 2nd pair of sandals.

Okay, where shall I begin, one of the main reasons I got him was he belonged to an unexpected litter and I have experience around wolves plus I wanted another. These are not the only reasons so don't go purchasing one just cause of wants. There are so many people that buy wolves expecting to make great house pets out of them to be blunt they aren't all that. As I stated earlier, they are very destructive and time consuming. Also to be perfectly honest they are not good guard dogs, they hardly bark and they are intimidated by strangers and will usually run from them.

Wolves are not loners like some may think; in fact wolves feel punished if not around others. I have 2 other dogs, one that is around NaNook all the time, Niko is a mixed breed from the pound and I couldn't ask for a better dog, I just hope NaNook will follow in his footsteps but only time will tell. NaNook has a mind of his own thought and isn't influenced by Niko very much.

I watch them play quite a bit and as I was hoping Niko has established alpha-1 with NaNook for now, they will have another confrontation when NaNook is older to establish this again but hopefully NaNook wont push it. Oh, I think I forgot to mention NaNook loves to play, run, get into things, if you turn your back for a second he's into something. As I was working on this he quietly grabbed the phone and ran with it, knocking over the phone stand and almost another table. When we caught him he was laying in the hall with his reward (the phone) between his paws. Yes he knows he did wrong because as soon as he saw us he high tailed it to the living room thinking he wouldn't be scolded for what he did. But to his bad luck the punishment still caught up with him. I currently keep NaNook in the house, I have a Mudroom that I keep him in at night and when we do have to leave the house, but that is only until he's alittle older.

Here are a couple pics of Niko and NaNook playing.

Oh I almost forgot, NaNook has another friend here and hopefully she wont be lunch later on, but she's basically let both the dogs know she IS the boss, her name is Eppie. Eppie is a 2 yr. old Himalayan cat one of the closest friends you'll have if she wants to be.

NaNook doesn't mess with Eppie very much but from the look on her face would you?

Here is a picture of Niko's k9 teeth and NaNook's see the difference. Granted NaNook has puppy teeth yet but his are sharper and if you look close you can see how much more they hook than Niko's. I know first hand those little teeth can hurt you, playing with him one night he grabbed hold of my finger and I jerked away quick, WRONG thing to do, needless to say, my finger was pretty sore for awhile.

NaNook is curious about everything, he loves to find bugs on my roses.

He also LOVES water, except when it's bath time. That sounds like a typical kid huh. Hehe

Here's Niko and NaNook in a barking and howling match.

Not much else to tell you about except that I love this little demon, no matter how bad he can be he still has his sweet moments like now.

SSSSHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

More to come later.

Okay folks I'm back with the latest news.

NaNook is doing great, turning out to be a real great pet. Don't get me wrong, I still have to hide the shoes but he's doing better all the time.

NaNook is now 19 weeks old, getting more mature all the time, now when I let him inside the house he might play for awhile but then he lays around like Niko does. Aaaahhh rest.

Doesn't he look so grown up already, gosh it's hard to believe he use to look like the above pics.

The only problem I'm having right now is his eating habits. I think he would rather play than eat and I worry about that all the time. Granted he does eat all his food during the day but I think he looks to thin. I talked to a friend just recently and he said NaNook looked fine, it's the puppy and the wolf in him that makes him look thin. I guess I'll just keep doing what I have been and if I get to where I can't stand it any longer I'll take him to see the vet. I guess I'm just use to how Niko looks and to be honest last checkup Niko had the vet told me he had to lose 10 lbs. I know, I know that isn't healthy either but it's really hard to say no to those eyes, Niko knows how to get what he wants from me, hehe hopefully NaNook wont learn Niko's secrets.

Oh yeah, I just about forgot. NaNook's new friend is our horse, he thinks he needs to be out there when I feed her hay. Actually it's kind of funny, NaNook will lay in the hay while the horse eats it. Granted the horse doesn't like it to much but so far she has just laid her ears back at him and nudged NaNook. I'll let him learn the hard way (as long as she doesn't try kicking him) maybe then he'll respect her a little more.

I took NaNook to the police dept. with me this week and he made a new friend real quick, which is unusual.

Leut. Mike Whitaker K9 is his new friend. NaNook was kind of shy at first but by the time I left he liked Mike alot, maybe it's cause Mike shared a hotdog with him. Hehe I try to socialize NaNook as much as possible, for one I don't want him to get aggressive toward other people and secondly I don't want him afraid. I try to get him to let others pet him as much as possible but sometimes (most) that is easier said than done. He is very curious about others and seems to want to get close but so far his fear is over riding his curiosity.

More later. As always still working on this page.
