Joseph Oddo is the latest to pursue the FairTax agenda as the most logical one for solving the nation's notorious tax collection system. Formerly the Internet Sales Manager at Ted Britt Ford Sales in Fairfax, Virginia, Oddo has accepted the voluntary position of District Director for the Americans for Fair Taxation. FairTax Virginia is the 11th Congressional District represented by Tom Davis. Biography: Joe Oddo has a Public Policy degree from Penn State. He has stayed active in politics running for office twice in the last 11 years. Oddo ran most recently as an Independent because while he agrees with some of each political parties' issues, taken apart there is very little difference to the two-party, big media controlled agenda that exists in today's Congress.. The small number of people that bothered to cast a vote - less than 10% of those registered in the December 2002 special election - plays into the hands of the elite ruling class minority - who will do anything to protect their "quality of live" at the expense of the poor, the uninsured and the middle class. Limited Government: Though an Independent, Mr. Oddo agrees with some Republican principles such as keeping government out of our lives. The tax burden must be corrected to prevent the government from taking more of our money, with less intrusion into our businesses and private lives. The latest version of the Republicans is alrming. They have become bigger spenders than the Democrats, with more pork in the budget, less oversight of Pentagon spending, and no concern over a $5 trillion deficit that will be the legacy left to our children. On Campaign Reform: Mr. Oddo does not buy into the premise that corporations and the rich should finance and sponsor candidates. He does not want to be in anyone's pocket, and is compelled to introduce legislation that will benefit the interests of all of our diverse community, not just the affluent special interests. There are many other issues that need addressed rationally and without the influence of special interests. Unfortunately modern government is supported by big corporations and favorable legislation is routinely drafted that supports corporate skirting of the rules. Take a look at the the over-lawyered, banker friendly House and Senate that exists in every state. The incumbents often run unopposed with a warchest of corporate PAC money. Trial-lawyers in this lawsuit happy nation are the one's benefiting from laws predominately written by their peers. Drug companies and insurance companies benefited the most from the Medicare bill that passed last year. The good of the our citizens and our enviroment are routinely sabotaged to settle a political score. This practice must be stopped! On the Blood for Oil War: The current administration is clearly aligned with the oil companies who are enjoying record profits. Of course, we cannot oppose profits, since that is what American capitalism thrives on, but they should not be achieved at the expense of our fragile global environment. And going after oil-rich countries like Iraq to serve our corporate barrons is a blatant misuse of power and will come backfire on us. We are already percieved as Imperilaists. There was no other reason for Bush to pursue regime change in Iraq - and we should keep the pressure on that: War is Not the Answer! On Education: The Democrats have been in control of the nations urbans areas for 60 years. Isn't it time we realized their methods of education have failed; their pouring money at all the social ills, has failed; that the liberal media controls the discourse and distorts the real record of the dysfuntion of our two party system. We need to adopt school choice, allow more liberal rules on homschooling and ensure that those in the economically depressed regions of the country get educated as well. On public participation: We want your voice - the voice of the citizens - to be heard. We seek and greatly appreciate any input from you. With the Internet, we should never be out of touch. You choose your elected officials to endorse your views, so if they fail, then let's get rid of them. What you can do: Our stand on many of the issues will be unpopular with the current incumbents who barely get tested once they hold the position. Those who do not respond to the wishes of their constituents should be replaced. That is why we need you and five of your friends to solicit their input and e-mail us on the issues that concern you.. Send this link to five friends in and tell them of the unique opportunity to actually have your voice heard. Thanks from the entire volunteer group at FairTax.org. |

Here is a draft of the legislative agenda we are proposing to the voters of this Northern Virginia district in preparation for the Congressional election on November 2, 2004 : ____Repeal the 16th Amendment to end the abusive, anti-productive income tax system in America. We will eliminate the IRS and retain all federal tax dollars with a national consumption tax. ____Endorse light rail transportation projects that offer alternatives to the fossil-fuel dependency that currently drives us via cars and buses. ____Limit terms to 8 years for all elected officials. ____Make it easier for citizens get on the ballot to seek elected office . Also, include the party of those running on the ballots state-wide. ____Allow more citizen input to making the roads safer and reducing aggressive drivers. The speed limit in the "fast" lanes on our highways should be 10 mph faster, which would force slower traffic to a much safer position. |
